Why should you delete a board in Jira?

A Jira board can be deleted for a variety of reasons, including if it is no longer needed or if it has been inactive for a long period of time.

3 reasons to delete a board on Jira

  1. The kanban board is no longer relevant or safe for the community. In rare cases, boards may become irrelevant due to changes in the company or product being developed by Jira, or due to personal matters taking priority over work. In such cases, it may be best to remove the board from circulation so that it does not distract from team work or critical deliberations.
  2. The Jira board is blocked by another user who has removed their permissions. Sometimes boards might become blocked because of a policy violation by one of their members – for example, when they have not followed through with a promise to post new content after some time has passed. If this is the case, it may be best to remove the board from circulation as well and invite its member back into the conversation so that they can address any issues raised in relation to that particular board.
  3. The board is no longer useful or engaging for members of the community. Board deletion may be warranted in cases where there are no new ideas being brought forward by members of the community and discussions around that topic are becoming stale. Oftentimes, removing a board from circulation can help jumpstart fresh discussions around an issue while still allowing members access to all of the information shared on that particular board.
